Happy Spring?

Here's a photo of Butters from this weekend. We're having gorgeous weather and trying to do some landscaping. Butters helped plant some seeds and otherwise enjoyed swinging most of the weekend!

I've been sick as a...pregnant lady. Sinus issues, coughing and yesterday I managed to puke on all my clothes! Socks, pants, and 2 shirts! Too much information, I know. I can't smell the beautiful lilacs in our yard!
In other pregnancy related items. I'm having the craziest dreams!
1. I was Madonna's assistant. She had this cool, Indian inspired house. We swam in the pool together and people kept bothering us. I told her, "You are MADONNA!"

2. I saw Aaron Schacter (sp?) from high school for a split second in my dream. Wha?

3. Butters had a twin! I forgot to mention it to my midwife, I came into an appointment with B and a big chubby boy, about 9 months old. He had big dark eyes and tons and tons of hear.

Those are just a few. I'll keep you posted! Time to go outside and enjoy the sun, we may only have it today!

First Haircut? No Way!

Why Butters isn't allowed to get a haircut:There is still hope for some curls! Yesterday at the children's museum, a woman called him a girl. It didn't bother me at first, he has no gender issues. Then, it started to really piss me off, he was wearing a red henley and grey pocketed pants. There is nothing girly about him. If more than one person in a day thinks he's not manly enough, I'll consider a haircut. But until then, I think he's a stud.

Crafty Update

I got a Viking for Cmas, so I had better learn to sew. Here is my first completed sewn gift.

It's a pillowcase. I've realized my taste in fabric is just as expensive as my taste for yarn! But these lotus flowers were just perfect for my friend Nancy-yay hon!

I've also learned a few things about sewing. Sewing takes patience and you are supposed to pre-shrink and even iron (!?!) your fabric. I don't iron. That's why I'm attracted to knitting. If you take a look at the next photo, you'll see I learned a few other things with this project.

I'm new to sewing, but I'm pretty sure your seams aren't supposed to look like this! Luckily, I don't think Nanc will loose sleep over it. I've also figured out that if you use the pattern on the fabric as a guide for a straight seam, unless you cut said fabric straight-your seam will not be straight. It's a learning process, but it's fun.

I also learned crochet. My friend who only knits said, "Why would you want to learn to crochet." The answer-edgings, quick blankets and it only takes one hand. I figure it will be easier to crochet and breastfeed than to knit and breastfeed. But I'll still pronounce it crotch-it.

In knitting news, I finished 'Darling' for my friend's daughter. Well, it's done except for embroidering flowers, now I just need to learn how to embroider. The color is a bit dark, but the mom request a chocolate brown and I like dark chocolate so I went with it. It's lighter than in these photos. I loved doing this top down with a raglan increase. No seams! I hate sewing, whoops, I guess I shouldn't have asked for that Viking for Cmas!

A Non-Native Speaks Her Mind

I've lived here in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) for over a year now, so I feel it's safe to complain a bit about this area. Sure, it's beautiful and green and we could actually afford to buy a house, but here are the things I really need to get off my chest:

1. My towel is never dry. I hang it over the heater, over the shower rod, nothing works, it's always slightly damp.

2. No one uses an umbrella or any rain gear. Like, if you use an umbrella in the rain here, you are immediately labeled a tourist or a total p*ssy, I guess!

3. Everyone drinks so much coffee, they can't understand that you would consider drinking anything else. On every other block is a drive thru coffee stand and on the two occasions that I've stopped and gotten a hot chocolate, the women asked me if it was for a child! She wouldn't make it as hot. I was so embarrassed, I said, "Uh, Yes?"

4. On the blocks were there isn't a coffee stand, there's an adult store, you know DVDs, books, equipment and other accoutrement. I guess the rain makes people horny.

5. I can't get used to the fact that I live NORTH of Seattle. I didn't think there WAS anything north of Seattle other than Canada. So, to get on the expressway and go to Seattle I have to remind myself every time-SOUTH.

On the other hand, this morning I watched from my window-a bald eagle circling the river below. Now, I know that the bald eagle has an inflated rep, but that isn't something I've ever seen in California, Kentucky, New York or Mass or any of the other states I've lived in. At least not from the comfort of my own home.
I don't know, the kitties seem to like it!

Time For Mom to Watch Her Mouth!

This is what I heard from the backseat today as we drove to my midwife appointment:

Oh f*ck, Oh f*ck, Levi poo poo

Ingenuous Little Man

Butters has been learning his colors and he has lately been obsessed with eyes. The wants to look at the cat's eyes, the dog's eyes, everyone's eyes and likes to talk about the colors.

Butters: Daddy's eyes brown.
Mom: That's right, your dad has brown eyes.
B: Mom's eyes blue.
M: Yes, and what color is my hair?
B: Grey

M: (pause) let's call it brown, okay?

Easter-Better Late Than Never

We honored Easter pagan-style-with chocolate bunnies and a feast with the family. (But, my mom did manage to sneak in an opera-cream cross!) The holiday was even more fun this year as Bud and I were both sick and still are! But, I'll start at the beginning and walk you through it with pictures:

Friday, got an Easter Basket from Grandma and Grandpa in KY.
C got to have his first Reece cup egg. My favorite as the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is much higher than regular Reece cups!
It didn't take long for the sugar to wear off:
That night he was up sick with a fever and in the morning this is what he looked like:

Here's the view from the side:
Do we drive down to the in-laws? We can't decide, we wait for the other to make the decision, we rally and go. We get to see T's grandpa and snap a 4 generation photo:
C got to have his own egg hunt, he started to catch on that finding eggs were a good thing! And, he used knitted mobius bowl, that I made him! We had a good time, but we probably should have stayed home and rested!

Bainbridge Island

We went to Bainbridge Island via Ferry last week with the yarn circle moms! Here's a photo from the boat.

I picked the photo that C looked best in! You'll notice his other two friends are wearing hand knitted items by THEIR mothers! I haven't made a thing for Carter since he was born! I'm a bad knitting mom. But, we've had so many babies born and then there was the Christmas Chrunch, etc, etc. Don't get me wrong, I've bought him yarn, I just haven't made anything!

Oh wait, I knitted him an alligator puppet. Now I feel a little less guilty.

We were both sick over the Easter weekend, but I'll add some pics soon!

The Little Things

Sometimes my little buddy will do a simple thing that makes me so happy to stay home with him. Sure, I love taking him to the Zoo, and even went to the Everett Symphony this weekend, but today was special. He chased a sunbeam.

It was very sunny but chilly this morning and the cat had opened the curtains a smidge to let in a ray of light. The ray traveled down to the floor and made a spot about 6 feet long. C stopped in his tracks when he saw it and ran along the sunbeam, back and forth, back and forth. Still in his footed PJs while I was distracted by breakfast, I peaked in at him, because it was too quiet. (I get worried when it's too quiet or if he's laughing too much, that would involve one of the pets!) He was happy to watch his feet in the sun. I would never have noticed it was there, kids are good at pointing those things out!

Let's make sure other parents can stay home with their kids, if they choose to. Click here.

In other news, here are some finished projects, they've been mailed and the recipients know who they are!

Slippers for a nephew on top. Pattern is Fuzzy Feet done in double stranded Cascade 220. Happy birthday today!

Kimono Sweater from Natural Knits for kids in Dark Horse Fantasy. I sewed the buttons wrong if you are Japanese.

The Amelie dress from Natural Knits in Manos Cotton. I modified it to be in the round. I hate seams.
