Super Dooper Pink Baby Shower

My friend threw me a baby shower this weekend! We made T shirts for baby girl and butters and we had a cupcake-cake. It was perfect, there were no "guess the candy bar in the diaper" games, just some great women and presents.

J did a computer image, a la What If They Mated and here's what our daughter will apparently look like.

Scary, isn't it. She's Art Garfunkel in need of a shave. You worry that your child will be healthy, at least that's what you tell people, but deep down, you really don't want your children to be ugly. This is will keep me up at night!

I went to the midwife and asked how big she thought the baby was, she felt around and said about 5.5 lbs, which puts her to 8 lbs or so at birth. Then we got another ultra sound (I had an almost placenta previa) and they spent about 10 minutes calculating the weight, and the technician said, about 5.5 lbs! The weird thing is, 8 lbs at birth sounds so small to me, Butters was 9.9. I'm already worried that I'm not doing as good a job with this one. I know it's crazy, 9.9 is excessive and we don't need to have babies that big, I just want to give her a good head start. Eight is good, it's healthy. We are going to birth this one at home, so I don't need her to be much bigger!

What I Can and Can't Do

My husband is much better at playing with our son than I am. I found Butters a used Tinker Toy set and all I can tinker up are lollipops. Here's what T made-a 'soft-tail motorcycle.' Butters is proud to play with it! T builds things-towers, waterwheel, car ramps and I decorate them!

I took the dog for a short walk to the dog park the other night and nearly died on the way home-serious groin pain and cramping, apparently I can't walk more than a mile.

But, there is one thing I can still do-knit! Here are two quick knits I finished up for store samples and to teach a class on this fall. They both use twisted stitches which give the look of cables, but they are much faster. I used Cascade Yarns, "Cloud 9" which is 50% angora, oh my, it is soft and heavenly to knit with! The hat pattern is "Van's Twisted Rib Hat" from Dream in Color. The gloves are free from South West Trading Company, called Fingerless Gloves. There are countless errors in this pattern, I'm still writing them up!

Gonzo is Gone!

I was as giddy as a school girl to wake up this morning and hear that Al Gonzales has resigned! I support Harry Reid's statement and Mitch McConnell wins my award for my hypocritical statement. This award comes with nothing and is non-binding.

I actually met Mitch through a program, Presidential Classroom, during High School. He was wormy and non-memorable. I took a trip to DC where we studied government and met our representatives (along with Mersydotes in Elevated Umbrella!). We met one of our senators, I can't remember the old Republican guy's name but the experience made both Mersydotes and myself into Democrats/Greens. He made the most disgusting comments to us, it was two women and three men, all attending based on equal merit and selected by our teachers and this senator says to M, "Mmmm, you smell good, what flavor are you?" I think M was wearing Channel. Or maybe it was Electric Blue, she was a big Debbie Gibson fan!!!! Anyway, Mr. Republican Senator probably did more to dissuade youth from serving the government than the Congressional Page program!

Perfect First Quilt

My aunt, P. Mookie, started me on a new addiction-quilting! I've been practicing and mostly finished one!
This was the perfect first quilting project as it doesn't involve any ironing (or "pressing," as PM told me!), very little pinning and for the most part, if you mess up, you can't really tell, or that's what I'm telling myself. This is a square rag quilt made from flannel, I'm clipping it, then I'll wash and dry it a few times to fray the ends of one side. I'm not a fan of pre-washing, pressing or pinning and my aunt had already done the cutting, so you'd think I couldn't go wrong! It looks okay, and it's given me some great ideas.

Of course, my man said, "I like how it's not all perfect squares, some are trapezoids, it's looks nice." This is a non compliment as it's actually supposed to be squares! It's almost as bad as this non compliment someone told me once, "Everybody hates your nose ring, but I kinda like it."

This quilt taught me:
1. How to do a straight seam (or not).
2. Chain stitching-I think that's what it's called, I sewed the small pieces in a big long chain.
3. I'm no good at holding pins in my mouth.
4. I'm not a perfectionist.
